It can be a blogger’s best friend if the right apps are installed on it. Unfortunately, not all websites show up the proper way on iPads. PadPressed is a plugin/theme solution for WordPress that turns almost any website into a native iPad app (almost). It makes your content more social friendly and easier to navigate through for your iPad visitors.

<object

All you have to do is install it on your blog, and you are ready to go. This theme (or plugin) automatically recognizes your iPad visitors and displays an alternative design just to those folks. PadPressed gives you control on what you want your visitors to see in your front page. You can define your featured categories and customize the logo you want to show up on your main page.

PadPressed currently has 5 very attractive designs that support swiping. Your visitors can change categories on your website with just a touch. PadPressed is accelerometer aware too and can display your blog in horizontal and vertical modes.

PadPressed is social media friendly and gives your visitors all the tools they need to share your stories on Twitter, Facebook, and via E-mail. Just because people are reading your blog using an iPad does not mean they can’t/won’t submit your stories to social networking sites.

Not everybody is going to have the funds to develop a dedicated native iPad app for a blog. It’s much more than capable of replacing laptops for short trips. It does help that there are thousands of apps available for it too. Take GoDocs for example. It’s a powerful application that lets you take advantage of Google Docs on your iPad and sync your work with your online account in a flash. Google Docs’ interface may not be optimized for iPad just yet. With GoDocs, you won’t have any issues browsing through your online documents.

While I do not use Google Docs to manage sensitive documents, I do store ideas, lists, articles, and spreadsheets online. It’s just a wonderful way to share information among our team members. With GoDocs, accessing all those documents takes just a couple of taps. The app has a very attractive interface and is quite fast. It lets you view all your Google Docs documents and even download them to your iPad without having to go through iTunes. Since you can download documents, you can view them offline as well, which is especially nice for WiFi iPad owners.

What’s nice about GoDocs is that it lets you open multiple Google Docs accounts simultaneously. It can open documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and PDF files. GoDocs even supports video and audio files. Once you are done viewing and modifying your files, you can just sync them with your online account.

<img

I truly believe that all serious bloggers need to clear at least 2 books a week to enhance their knowledge and keep on the top of their niche (we are not talking about romantic novels here). Before getting an iPad, I used my Kindle to accomplish that. Unfortunately, Kindle is just an e-book reader. You can’t expect to get anything more out of it. The iPad can not only be an e-reader, it can do a whole lot of other things too. Who can forget about all the handy iPad apps that are available in iTunes. iAnnotate PDF is one of those apps that can open e-books and lets its users modify their PDF documents on the go.

I have never been a fan of using a marker to highlight things in my paper books. After all, those marks are permanent. With iAnnotate PDF, I don’t have to worry about that. It not only opens PDF files, it lets you add your text notes, highlights, and drawings to your e-books. You can also bookmark sections of your book for future references.

Transferring your PDF files to your iPad is not too difficult in this app. You can get it done by syncing your documents through iTunes. If that’s too difficult, just send your documents or their links to yourself via e-mail. The app’s tab system makes it easy to open up multiple documents at once.

Searching through a paper book for a specific piece on information can be very inefficient. That’s not what you have to worry about on your iPad. iAnnotatePDF lets you search your entire PDF library to find what you are looking for faster. I love the fact that you can sync your iPad library with your desktop. That makes it much easier to manage large e-book libraries.

In summary, if you are looking to ditch your paper-books for digital books on your iPad and want to own a powerful tool to open up and modify your PDF files, iAnnotatePDF is a very good choice. It’s very easy to use and has a ton of features for e-book addicts.

7 Ways To Develop a Killer iPad Strategy for Your Blog

Blogging Strategies

ipad
<guid

It can be used as an entertainment device, a gaming tablet, or an e-book reader. Apple has already sold hundreds of thousands of units, and it is expected to sell millions of more in the near future. What does that mean for you as a blogger? It’s all simple really. The iPad is going to be another channel for you to connect with your readers in and gain more followers for your blog. If you own a small blog, chances are you are not going to have enough resources to build a killer iPad app for it. Those of you who do have a strong team behind your blog and have the resources to focus on yet another channel should not ignore iPad.

When you build an iPad for your blog, you don’t want to offer just the same old content through your app. You need to offer extra value for iPad owners to truly care about your app. If your app is going to be a paid one, you better give people a reason not to regret their purchase. Here are 7 ways to do just that:

Offer High Quality Content: this goes without saying. If your content is crap, for the lack of better term, people are not going to use your app or read your blog. It’s really a no brainer. That’s why I talked about having a resourceful team. iPad is a tough channel to master. You’ll need to have your “A” game to have a chance.

Interactive Content: Wired.com’s iPad application shows exactly how iPad is different from all other e-book readers. Developing interactive content can be costly, but if you have a paid iPad app, you are better off offering this type of content.

Don’t Forget Multimedia: this is much easier to do than the previous item. Exclusive videos and audio commentary is not that hard to add to an iPad app.

Exclusive Content for Loyal Followers: don’t forget to link your blog to your iPad app. Your iPad app should help your blog become more successful. That would not be possible if you are not leveraging your app properly to achieve that goal. Providing exclusive tips and content to your loyal blog readers is a good start.

Convenience & Usability: forget about the bells and whistles. Not until you have an app that is easy to use and does not confuse your readers. Give your readers the tools they need to share your content with others on their iPad. Don’t try to be too fancy with your app.

Performance Matters: nobody likes a sluggish iPad app. If your app is paid, you should double your efforts to make sure your app performs well. Crashes and bugs are annoying too. So work them all out with your team.

Aggressive Pricing Strategy: you can monetize your app properly and make a decent chunk of profit if you play your cards right. You will have to focus on content and value for your readers if you expect them to pay for your app. There are so many useless paid apps in iTunes. Don’t let yours be one of them. Don’t be too greedy either. If it makes sense to offer your app for free, don’t hesitate.

What are your suggestions on how to build a killer iPad app for a blog?

5 Best iPad Apps for Bloggers

iPhone/iPad Apps

apps

ipad
<guid
