I don’t know what it is about using images that turns non-geeks away. For some reason, folks forget everything they know about computers and the Internet when they try to approach image and video files. But this is 2008 (soon to be 09), and you are not going to afford to stay on the sidelines while other bloggers use videos and images on their own sites. Now, adding audio and video to a blog is something that requires some work. But adding images is a whole other story.

Not having images on your site makes it look dead. Worse yet, choosing images that everybody else is using makes your blog look cheap and irrelevant. You should always try to find images that are attractive and give your blog the best chance to stand out. Using the right images allow you to connect with your readers more effectively. Now, you may be afraid of getting down and dirty to manipulate images. But you can easily do so by using a program such as Photoshop. Now a lot of folks complain about Photoshop being to expensive. That’s a fair point. You can always use Gimp.

Manipulating and playing with images is only one part of the whole story. The key is to use images in innovative and creative ways to make your blog stand out. If you take a look at super bloggers, they consistently manage to come up with creative ways to use images. At the end of the day, you can’t expect to become a superstar in the blogging world without some creativity. Images, videos, and audio allow you to use your creativity to set yourself about from fellow bloggers. If you are new to blogging, you may find it overwhelming (I recommend signing up for a training course), but you got to start somewhere.

Your take: what’s the most creative way you have used an image on your blog to set yourself apart from other?
