What Bloggers Can Learn from Lyoto Machida

What do bloggers and the baddest man on the planet, Lyoto Machida, have in common? On the surface, we can’t be any more different. He is a fighter while a lot of us are talkers, writers, and hopefully thinkers. But once you go beyond what’s on the surface, you can learn a lot from Machida. By looking at his past, it’s easy to see how he has gone about becoming one of the most dangerous fighters in his field. You may not be a fighter, but your goal is the same as Machida, to be the best you can be in your field. If you don’t shoot for a dream, you are not going to realize it.
Lyoto Machida is different from any fighter you see in the UFC. He is a master in Karate, and his elusive style has baffled the toughest opponents. And it helps that he has knocked out some of the best fighters in the world (with the toughest chins). So what makes Lyoto Machida special?
Dedication
This guy may be a master in this art, but he doesn’t rely only on his talent to win fights. He works harder than his opponents in order to not leave anything to chance. I have seen many talented bloggers who take things too easy and lose momentum after a while. If a world class champ is not taking it easy, why should you?
Knowledge
What you knew yesterday doesn’t give you a competitive edge. What you learn today does. You should never stop learning. Machida is a black belt martial artists and is still learning new things. So should all bloggers from all walks of life.
Patience
A true champion knows what it takes to get to the top. It’s not easy or straight forward. It could take a while, and you’ve got to be ready when your chance comes. If you are too impatient, you are not going to achieve your dreams.
Never Surrender Attitude
It would be easy for Machida to get discouraged after the UFC denied him title shots after his consecutive wins. Would Machida be here if he gave up or got discouraged? A lot of newbie bloggers give up way too easily. If you quit, you are not going to succeed.
Smart Approach
UFC is one of the most exciting companies around. It has had some of the most brutal fights in the history of the mixed martial arts. There are a lot of fighters who just want to go out and bang. Not Machida. He has studied the game and knows exactly when to attack. He doesn’t leave his head in front of you for you to hit it. He moves and lets you show your hand before unleashing on you. In other words, he picks his spots. That’s exactly what new bloggers need to do to gain traction in their niche. You can’t just go against the big guys and bang your head against them. There are smarter ways to compete.
Innovation
Machida is not the first Karate master in the world of MMA, so why people can’t figure him out? Could it possibly be due to his unique style of Karate, Machida Karate? His style is so innovative that his opponents have a hard time finding similar partners. Innovation is one of those areas that bloggers have to pay a close attention to. You don’t want to get lost in the crowd. You want to stand out. Innovation should be on the top of your agenda to achieve success in your field.
There you have it. I am no fighter, and I barely understand the game of MMA. But I do know that there is a lot we all can learn from these champions. Just like MMA, blogging can be a struggle too. So let your fighting spirit to take over and go for it.
Your take: which champion have you learned the most from in your blogging career?
