So you want to be a successful blogger? I assume everyone who starts a blog has goals and wants to get somewhere with it. You won’t be able to do that by procrastinating and not making a conscious effort to improve your blog. To have success as a blogger, newbies need to focus more on their visitors’ needs and less on themselves. Having a big ego can be detrimental here. There is no question that content is a big success factor for those who have made it as pro bloggers. You can’t do anything without exceptional content. But it’s not everything. There is an art and science behind blogging. You can’t master one aspect and expect to see amazing results.

If you are ready to go beyond good content and breathe some new life into your struggling blog, here are 7 aspects of this game that you need to master:

  1. Unique Content: we are not just talking about content quality here. You should do your best to create the best content possible for your readers. But don’t just tackle the same issues other bloggers are doing in your niche. Try to stay unique. Think outside the box. If you are tackling the same concepts as others in your niche, make sure you have a different take or spin on things to help differentiate yourself from other bloggers in your niche.
  2. Blog Design: when you are ready to take the next step with your blog, it does not hurt to hire a professional designer to build a unique look and feel for your blog. The more intuitive your blog design, the easier it is for your visitors to find their way around it.
  3. Brand Yourself: going back to the previous point, you need to have a comprehensive branding strategy if you want make it big time in the blogging world. All top bloggers have mastered this art. Make sure your blog design conveys your brand image to your visitors.
  4. Networking: we all want to be able to blog from our beds and do nothing else for a living. I have been there and done that. But you can’t do everything yourself. Sometimes, the people you know can open new doors for you. Don’t hesitate to connect with others online and offline and start building solid relationships in your industry.
  5. Interaction: going back to the previous point, all bloggers should take time to interact with their visitors on a consistent basis. If you are new to blogging, you know how difficult it can be to get comments on your new posts. So don’t ignore the comments that you get if you want your community to grow.
  6. Attention to Details: you shouldn’t wait for months to get your blog up to speed as far as SEO and other details are concerned. Your blog may not be as large as you want it to be but look at the bright side. As a newbie, you have more agility and can implement things faster. So stay on the top of those small little details that can give you an edge over your competitors.
  7. Don’t be afraid of new channels: it still surprises me to see blogs that do not have their own dedicated Twitter account or Facebook page. If you have tried those channels and have had no success, then you may have an excuse. Otherwise, you should never be afraid of trying the new communication channels in your niche. Whether it is Twitter, Facebook, Posterous, or YouTube, it never hurts to test things out.

These 7 steps are not easy to master. They take time and effort. Bloggers should not only focus on content creation if they want to maximize their blogs’ potential. Don’t be afraid to try new things. The rest is much easier.
