Why Adsense Doesn’t Make a Millionaire Blogger

If you had read my previous posts about Adsense, you probably know that I am not exactly a huge fan of the service. I have used Adsense before, and I know the money that a few people so-called gurus promise you is not there. Think about it. If you are planning to make $100,000 in profit from Adsense, you are going to need just a huge amount of traffic and a high CTR on your Adsense ads. Unless you are clicking on your ads and using some sneaky way to go undetected, you are going to need at least 10 million visitors a month to generate that amount of money alone. But then if you get that much traffic, your web-hosting cost is going to go through the roof. Besides, you won’t be able to generate that kind of traffic by tapping into SEO and social media alone. So when you consider the advertising, web hosting, and other miscellaneous costs, you are going to be making much less than that in a month.
You have probably seen web site owners who claim to have made thousands of dollars with Adsense. They even show you their checks, but the truth is they don’t disclose their costs. I find that to be very deceptive as a lot of people believe that stuff by seeing that big check and get themselves in traffic. Adsense is simply not marketing. Not only it doesn’t look good on blogs, it doesn’t generate enough revenue for most people to quit their jobs. That’s why you need to have multiple streams of income coming in.
Affiliate marketing is one way to go, and many bloggers take advantage of that by writing reviews about products in their niches. You can also try paid reviews to boost your income. I personally prefer sponsorships as in some cases they can help you grow your business. A friend of mine runs a gadget blog and these sponsors provide him with the latest gadgets free of charge. So all he needs to do is review the gadgets in a timely fashion. That way it’s a win-win situation for the sponsor and the blogger (unless the product is awful).
The moral of story is that you should never trust Adsense as a way to get out of the rat race. Adsense can boost your income and help you buy little toys for yourself and your business but don’t set your expectations too high or you would be disappointed.
