Should You Monetize Your Blog Right away?
Blogging is all about having fun and also providing valuable content to your users to keep them coming back for more. But nothing is done for free really. You can’t expect to make a living out of your blog if you don’t plan on how to monetize it. Many professional bloggers have 4 or 5 methods of blog monetization in place in order to make a decent living. Whether it’s contextual advertising (adsense, YPN, …) or writing paid posts or reviews, you should definitely plan ahead in order to minimize your risk and save yourself headaches. But when should you put the ads on your blog?
Adsense, in my opinion, is one of the most ugly looking forms of advertising there is on the Internet. And while it shouldn’t be your main strategy for blog monetization, it could help you cover your costs and then some if done right. The funny thing is main new bloggers put adsense text units at the top of their pages and expect people just to click on them. But if you are not established enough in your market, your blog will look like a splog to your visitors and as such will be ignored. Many bloggers wait for a few months before starting the direct monetization process. After all, a few months should give you plenty of time to establish yourself and your blog and get some steady readership going. But keep in mind that those few months should be your absolute best months yet. If your content is not compelling enough, you can’t expect people to tolerate ugly ads and banners on your site.
Th bottom of the story is that you should never jump into the monetization process without proper planning and adequate authority for your blog. If you rush into the process, not only will you not make money, you will end up hurting your blog’s future badly. Patience is indeed a virtue here.
