When you hear the phrase “blog monetization,” the first thing that comes to mind is making actuall money from your blog. But sometimes, you make money as a result of your blog and not directly from it. For instance, Google Adsense could be a direct way to monetize your blog. You put ads up on your blog, people click, and you make a few bucks here and there. Google sends you the check at the end of each month, and there we go. You have directly made money from your blog.

“Indirect blog monetization” is a bit different as you get paid using your blog as a vehicle to promote your other activities. Here is how your blog can help you make money indirectly:

  • Find writing gigs: people often forget that blogging is not much different from writing from a major newspaper. Sure, the approaches can be different, but you are still writing, and unless you are a good in that form of communication, there is a good chance your blog will fail. Having said that, if you are running a masterpiece of a blog, there is a good chance that people call you up to offer you to write paid posts, reviews. In some cases, you may even get writing contracts (or even books) as a result of your blog. Who wouldn’t want that now?
  • Find Service Clients: depending on the type of your blog and your industry, you maybe able to use your blog as a vehicle to promote your services. Let’s say you are an internet marketer and have a blog about internet marketing in general. If your blog is solid enough, you maybe able to use it to show what you can do for potential clients. More clients, more money…
  • Find sponsorship deals: believe it or not, this is not too far fetched. I have seen a few videobloggers who have gotten real cash by signing sponsorship deals with major companies. If the videos that are producing are hot and viral enough, you may find yourself in high demand. You may even show up in TV commercials, which is not bad.
  • Find Speaking engagements: depending on how authoritative your blog is, you maybe asked to talk about your topic of expertise and get paid for it handsomely. Often, you get paid not only for talking but making the trip and your hotel costs are covered too. Now tell me who wouldn’t want to travel around the world for free and get paid for talking about their favorite topics.

Making millions from a blog is a dream that many bloggers follow on an everyday basis. But indirect methods of blog monetization could even work out better than the direct ones, and sometimes they are just too lucrative too ignore.
