Optimizing your blog for the top search engines can take a while, but as long as you pay attention to your keywords, content, and link building campaigns, there is no reason you can’t dominate the search engines with your blog. As you know, search engines come and go. Their algorithms do as well. So if you have been putting all your eggs in one basket and optimized your blog for only one search engine, you may be leaving yourself open to unnecessary risks. I personally don’t prefer optimizing my sites for only one engine. I would rather focus on the universal optimization tactics that could get my blog exposure on top search engine on a long-term basis.
You don’t have to be a genius to realize where the search engine industry is heading in the future. The future is mobile, social, and much more. As long as you pay attention to the latest SEO blogs or take time to check out Google and other engines for new features, you should get enough ideas on what each engine will focus on in the near future. Let’s take Google’s real time search for example. Your tweets are now going to show up on the results pages. So you do want to make sure your tweets contain tags and keywords that could gain you exposure on Google. If you have looked at Google’s new search interface, there are plenty of more ideas you can come up with. Here is how the old Google looks like:

There are plenty of features on the above page to take advantage of. Wonder Wheel is a cool little tool that can help you come up with new blogging ideas. The new search interface is even more stunning and reveals what all bloggers need to focus on to take their blog to the next level:

As you can see in the above figure, Google is going to pay attention to forums, blogs, images, videos, news, and everything in between. So you should take time to be involved in all those areas. Take time to bring multiple authors on board on your blog and get your blog submitted to Google news. Add videos to your blog and upload them to YouTube. Share your images online and tag them properly so Google can pick them up more easily. Add a keyword-rich map of your company to your website and make sure your business is listed on Google Local Business Center. So on and so forth.
The future of blogging is mobile and social. So make sure you are ready for the future today. Google is already telling you what it will look for to provide more value to searchers. So it’s all up to you to take advantage. Optimizing your website for the search engines will take time, but by adding the above elements to your overall strategy, you are going to save yourself time and money in the long run. Don’t forget that being an early mover can only give you advantage.
Your turn: what tactics are you implementing to future proof your blog?
