How To Run The Table On Your Competitors?

One of the fastest ways to get started in any niche by watching what others are doing in that niche, and how you can improve on it. I am not suggesting that you should find the biggest site on the block and copy everything that they are doing. I am suggesting that you should copy and improve at the same time. The truth is by watching successful sites in your niche you can find out what works and what doesn’t. Even the best business plans have holes in them and by watching the top blogs in your niche, you can find out what it is that you can use against them to attract some of their readers.

How to Turn Your Competitors Weaknesses Against Them

Everybody has a weakness, and you’d do well by using that against them to challenge them in their niche. But before you can take advantage of someone’s weakness, you should be aware of their strengths. It’s like boxing. You can’t knock someone out with a left without being aware of their best shot or you’d be knocked out long before you have a chance to knock them out.

You should also think about their blogging habits. How many posts do they make every day? What is their style? How many guest post they have? How long their posts are? What other ways they provide value to their readers (videocasts, podcasts)? How they promote their blogs? Who is their target market? What is their business model? These are the questions that you need to find out to evaluate your attack options.

By conducting a comprehensive gap analysis you can find the holes in your competitors’ plans and design your own strategy to take advantage of those gaps. Your plan should not always be about bringing another sites down. Your goals should be to create your own unique market and provide unique value in a way that keeps people want to consume your content. Sometimes, you can join your competitors to dominate a market together. But in most markets, established sites are not willing to share their turf with you, which means you should go to their weakness to chip away at their lead in your niche. It is good to remember that things are always look greener from the other side of the aisle. So don’t be overly impressed with your competitors as everyone has a weakness.
