Are You a Part-Time Blogger?

Blogging for fun is one of the most common trends in the blogging community these days. A whole lot of folks who have day time jobs post a few blogs per week to share their thoughts with the world. But a lot of these folks don’t have any plans to become professional bloggers. After all, unless you start seeing some potential in your blog, it’d be too silly to quit your day job. Now, I am all for taking high risks for high rewards, but with blogging the rewards are not that high (especially if you have a family to feed).
That’s where Part-Time blogging comes in. Becoming a part time blogger is the first natural step towards becoming a professional blogger and Internet entrepreneur. When you are not happy with you day job, it is too easy to spend your spare time on something that you are passionate about. I remember when I got started blogging on a part-time basis. I didn’t necessarily plan to become a full-time blogger, but I was hoping that I would find new opportunities along the way. Besides, blogging was my escape from my daily work. But as I tested new ideas and started seeing results, I spent less on TV shows and other distractions and more on my blog. And after a year of part-time blogging, I was ready to leave my day job.
Part-time blogging is perhaps the most important step in any bloggers career. If you are too risk averse to quit your day job and start a professional blogging business, then part-time blogging allows you to take the approach that many risk averse entrepreneurs take on an everyday basis: be a “chicken” entrepreneur. Basically, you don’t know how deep the ocean is, so instead of jumping in all the way, you take baby steps. And that’s what business is all about. A whole lot of successful people have taken baby steps and if you take too many of them, you find yourself in a position to do great things.
Now whether you are passionate about blogging or just curious about this phenomenon, part-time blogging is a solid way to approach it. The key here is to figure out the next step on your way. If you blog for a while and you feel it’s something you may enjoy doing on a full-time basis, then you are probably on the right track. But if you are miserable keeping up with your blog and blame it on your day job, then blogging may not be for you. A whole lot of successful bloggers have worked 80 hours a week (counting their day jobs) to make their blogging careers happen. If you are not willing to sacrifice and just hope for doors to open for you, quitting your day job is probably not the right option.
So, are you a part-time blogger? What is your single biggest challenge as a blogger and a full-time worker? Please share you stories here.
