WordPress 2.7 is finally out, and I can’t be happier about it. If you are a pro blogger, chances are that you are using WordPress as the content management system to manage your blog. WordPress is a very powerful content management system, and it comes with lots of features designed to help bloggers become more efficient and productive. But are you getting the most out of WordPress?
My gut tells me that the majority of bloggers don’t know how to get the best out of WordPress. The fact that you are getting the system for free could partially justify that fact. After all, if you are not paying for it, then you don’t have to know everything about the system. Well, you should definitely try to learn as much as you can about WordPress. It took me about 24 hours to finish a book on WordPress, a few years ago, and I don’t see anyone being stuck with with a WordPress book for more than a week.
Learning how to set up and update your WordPress blog is the first thing to consider. I know a lot of folks who actually pay the geek nation to set up and upgrade their WP systems. That is just a waste of money. The WP system is not too difficult to upgrade as long as you have the ability to follow the instructions provided by the good folks at WordPress. Once you have set up your WordPress blog, you are going to have to do some research and find a set of plug-ins that give you the best chance to optimize your blog for SEO. Plug-ins such as SEO Title Tags allow you to optimize your title tags for search engines. There are thousands of similar plug-ins that you can use to put yourself in a position to get free traffic from the search engines.
I believe what most folks struggle with is the process they need to go through to add audio, video, and images. As someone who has taught a lot of non-technical folks how to get started with WordPress, I can tell you that folks just find audio, video, and images scary. There is just something about them that shuts their brains down. In reality, adding audio and video to your blog is not really that difficult. There are thousands of software packages that you can use to get your audio and video up on your blog. But if you don’t spend time to learn these things, you are going to be stuck with a text blog for life.
At the end of the day, you should consider Google your best friend. You can find almost anything on these search engines, and as long as you have the drive and capacity to learn, you are going to be fine. Some folks need someone to take their hand, and that is perfectly fine. You can use blog training packages by guys such as Yaro. Either way, this is a process that you will have to go through to get the best out of WordPress.
